Chené Vorster
Dietician

I stumbled upon the dietetics career by accident in my final years of high school and immediately knew this field was calling my name. I went off and studied dietetics at the University of Pretoria, balancing multiple residence activities, HC activities and a difficult but rewarding degree.

During my final year of studying, I worked in various different clinics and hospitals. I was found all the way from Mamelodi’s clinics to CHBAH in Johannesburg. My community service year was completed in a 720-bed regional hospital and it provided me with skills and knowledge that I will forever carry with me. All these clinics and hospitals have provided me with confidence in both in- and outpatient management of all types of patients.

I enjoy challenges and often find myself with tackling many different tasks and challenges at once. I don’t enjoy sitting still and always find ways to keep myself busy. I enjoy being physically active and partake in sports activities such as boxing and hiking in my spare time. I also enjoy other stimulating activities such as reading and crocheting.

Some fun facts about me:

  • I too have high cholesterol and have been managing it myself (with lifestyle and diet) for the past 6 years.
  • I am a certified PADI rescue diver and will always be somewhere under water during my leave periods.
  • My favourite season is Spring, even if it’s still a bit chilly – it beats the cold weather by far!
  • I enjoy gardening and had a big veggie garden. It’s a project I need to start up again.
  • I prefer vegetables over any other food group.
  • Sushi Wednesdays are a tradition in our house and I always have it on a Wednesday.
  • I have skydived before, as well as bungy-jumped.
  • All shades of green can be considered my favourite colour.
  • A food I absolutely can’t develop a taste for is beetroot.
  • I enjoy crocheting little fruits and veggies to hand out as gifts.

My special interests include chronic diseases (high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes mellitus etc.), weight loss and gut disorders / health.
